About KrX Green Sea Peel
The Korean Green Sea Peel by KrX is an advanced skin resurfacing treatment that leverages marine bioactives (spicules) to promote cellular renewal, and collagen synthesis. Unlike conventional chemical peels that rely on alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) for exfoliation, this formulation employs naturally derived spicules to achieve a mechanical micro-channeling effect, making it a highly effective treatment to improve skin texture and pigmentation.
Spicule treatments are sometimes referred to as liquid microneedling for their micro-channeling effect. However, unlike traditional micro-needling, spicules penetrate the epidermis naturally, embedding themselves into the skin for an extended period—often up to 24 to 72 hours—before gradually being exfoliated or absorbed by the skin.
This prolonged presence in the skin acts as a transdermal delivery system, facilitating the deeper absorption of active ingredients.
When you add Human Umbilical Cord Stem Cells it aids in ultra hydration, skin rejuvenation, and skin renewal for increased healing time.
This service is best for someone with deep acne scars, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, thickened skin, melanin rich skin, collagen stimulation and long-term skin renewal, and pregnant women who can't receive a chemical peel.
Key Bioactive Ingredients + Their Mechanisms of Action
-
Hydrolyzed Sea Sponge (Spicules: Natural Micro-Needling System)
Spicules function as natural trans-epidermal micro-needles that create controlled micro-channels in the skin. This process facilitates:
Enhanced Penetration of Active Ingredients – The micro-channeling effect amplifies the delivery of vitamins, minerals, and hydrators into the epidermis.
Collagen Stimulation & Wound Healing Response – By activating fibroblasts, spicules encourage increased collagen and elastin production, leading to firmer, smoother skin.
Oxygenation & Microcirculation Boost – Spicules enhance blood flow, ensuring greater oxygen delivery to skin cells. This is particularly beneficial in treating acne and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Antimicrobial Protection – Sea sponges naturally produce enzymes that inhibit microbial growth, reducing the proliferation of fungi and bacteria that may contribute to breakouts and irritation.
-
Durvillaea Antarctica Extract (Southern Bull Kelp)
This potent marine extract is rich in:
Amino Acids – Essential for collagen formation, aiding in skin repair and resilience.
Flavonoids – Powerful antioxidants that neutralize free radicals, and premature aging.
Minerals (Zinc, Magnesium, and Iodine) – Support cellular metabolism, immune defense, and wound healing.
Fatty Acids – Reinforce the lipid barrier, enhancing moisture retention and protecting against trans-epidermal water loss.
-
Algae Extract: Hydration, Barrier Support, and Antioxidant Protection
The term "Algae Extract" encompasses a diverse range of marine-derived compounds that benefit the skin by:
Reinforcing the Skin’s Hydration Matrix – Algae contain cellulose within their cell walls, which functions as a moisture reservoir, preventing dehydration and enhancing skin plumpness.
Beta-Carotene: A Precursor to Vitamin A – A potent antioxidant that supports skin immunity, reduces inflammation, and improves barrier function.
UV Damage Mitigation – Some algal species produce mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) that provide natural photoprotection, reducing photoaging and oxidative stress.
Key Benefits of the KrX Green Sea Peel
Non-Acidic – Suitable for individuals sensitive to AHAs, BHAs, or retinoids.
Hyperpigmentation & Texture Refinement – Targets uneven skin tone, post-inflammatory discoloration, and roughness through controlled keratinocyte turnover.
Collagen & Fibroblast Activation – Stimulates biological wound-healing mechanisms, leading to progressive skin tightening and rejuvenation.
Pregnancy Safe - Due to the natural ingredients, this peel is safe for pregnant, and breastfeeding women.
FAQ
-
How long do spicules remain in the skin, and what is their role during that time?
Spicules stay in the epidermis for 24-72 hours, where they stimulate circulation, increase oxygen flow, and accelerate skin renewal. During this time, clients may feel prickling or sensitivity, which is part of the regenerative process. -
Is the Green Sea Peel safe for all skin types, including sensitive or acne-prone skin?
Yes, but with caution. Sensitive skin types should start with a patch test and may need barrier-strengthening treatments beforehand. Inflamed acne-prone clients should have active breakouts minimized before treatment. -
What are the expected sensations during and after a spicule treatment?
-
During application: A prickly, stinging sensation as spicules penetrate the skin.
-
Immediately after: Skin may appear red and feel rough, similar to a mild sunburn.
-
1-3 days post-treatment: Tingling, tightness, and mild peeling may occur as the skin regenerates.
-
4-7 days post-treatment: Skin feels smoother and more refined with visible improvements in texture.
-
-
Can the Green Sea Peel be combined with other professional treatments?
Yes, but not in the same session. Treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, or laser therapies should be spaced out 3-4 weeks before or after a spicule treatment to avoid overstimulation. -
What are the contraindications for using the Green Sea Peel?
Dermatitis, Compromised barrier, Autoimmune skin disorders, Sunburn, Shellfish allergy
-
What are the sessions and intervals?
Peeling is individual and may start on day 2 or up to date 4. Each session can be done 10-14 days after peeling has finished. Recommended 4 week intervals of 3 sessions for full results.
-
Use of Accutane:
Do not receive this treatment if you have used Accutane within a year.
-
Is there an age recommendation?
Teens to adults may receive this treatment. However, due to lifestyle choices, it's advised to exercise caution in teens because, lack of proper aftercare can result in Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation.
Pre-Care
To prepare the skin, you should follow these guidelines for at least two weeks before your Green Sea peel:
Incorporate Spicules Twice a Week
Using KrX’s BioHerb 50 (given to you during a required consultation) prior to the peel helps gently prime the skin, improve texture, and support skin renewal. Following these instructions twice a week for two weeks before the treatment:
Bioherb Prep Protocol
Step 1: Start with clean, dry skin.
Step 2: Apply to the skin and allow it to fully absorb. Use once every 5-7 days and adjust usage according to skin sensitivity.
Step 3: Finish with serums and moisturizer of choice
For 5-7 days before the Green Sea Peel, discontinue the use of:
❌ Retinoids and retinol-based products
❌ Exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs, PHAs) or physical exfoliants
❌ Benzoyl peroxide or other strong acne treatments
❌ Use thick, or rich hydrating creams
Other Pre-Care Notes
Those who are prone to Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation should use a tyrosinase inhibitor for 6 weeks prior to the Green Sea Peel.
Those who do not properly prep their skin may experience increased discomfort, uneven results, no peeling or excessive peeling, so adhering to these guidelines is essential.
Post-Care
Proper post-care is essential to ensure the best results from the Green Sea Peel. The skin will go through a renewal process, and following these aftercare guidelines will promote faster healing, better results, and reduced risk of complications like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
The First 24 Hours
For the first 24 hours post-treatment, the skin is in a highly reactive state as the spicules remain embedded in the epidermis, stimulating renewal.
🚫 Do Not Cleanse – Allow the skin to fully absorb the treatment without any disruption. We do not recommend cleansing for 24 hours. Should you cleanse, the treatment will still be effective. We have just found this technique yields better results.
🚫 Do Not Apply Moisturizer or SPF – The skin should be left undisturbed during this critical healing phase. Do not apply moisturizer or SPF for 24 hours. If you’re concerned about sun exposure, we recommend booking spicule treatments later in the day.
48 Hours
After 24 hours, cleanse with a gentle cleanser and use a light moisturizer. If you're uncomfortable, we recommend cold compresses. Avoid exercise and excessive heat - this is essential to prevent internal heat from rising as this can lead to increased irritation and inflammation which may result in PIH. This includes: saunas, steam rooms, high intensity workouts, hot yoga, sun exposure
72 Hours
Mild to moderate flaking, dryness or rough texture is normal. The spicule sensation may still be present. Continue to avoid exercise and excessive heat.
Days 5-7
Peeling is normal, or it may be subsiding. Skin should be looking brighter, smoother and more even.
Beyond 7 Days
Continued improvements in texture, tone, and clarity, with results progressively enhancing over the following weeks. Once peeling has subsided, resume normal skincare regimen based on your skin concerns/type.
Do Not Exfoliate (At Least 7 Days Post-Peel)
🚫 No physical scrubs, acids (AHAs, BHAs, PHAs), or retinoids for at least one week.
🚫 Avoid harsh cleansers or active serums that may disrupt healing.
The skin will naturally exfoliate as part of the renewal process, and forcing exfoliation can lead to irritation and uneven peeling.
Do Not Pick or Peel
As the skin begins to shed, it is crucial to let it slough off naturally.
Do not pick, scratch, or manually remove peeling skin—this increases the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), scarring, or prolonged redness.
If the skin feels unbearably dry or tight, apply a hydrating moisturizer rather than attempting to remove flakes manually.
Protect the Skin
Stay Out of the Sun – UV exposure can worsen inflammation and increase the risk of hyperpigmentation.
Apply light moisturizer – This will soothe, lightly hydrate, and support the skin barrier during the healing process.
Daily SPF is Non-Negotiable – Once SPF can be reintroduced (after 24 hours), a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen (SPF 30+) should be applied daily to prevent damage and ensure even healing.
Why Post-Care is Crucial
Following these aftercare steps ensures:
Minimal irritation and a smooth healing process
Reduced risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and sensitivity
Maximum collagen stimulation and long-term skin benefits
By taking intentional care of the skin post-peel, you will experience better results, a healthier barrier, and an overall improved complexion.
